From this sketch image, I've inking with permission. This image is just a rough inking, no great time has been spent on the colours or corrective detail, obviously no shading either.

I have changed the title to correct the device, Mr Gyle was a Banshee not a Vampire. Since raisegrate didn't limit the derivative work license, I've put this image under CC-BY-SA-NC (Creative commons, attribution, share alike, non-commercial) and attached the svg souce file for those who want to use it.

ha ha! Very cool Doctor Mo! I like what you've done with it! You say this is rough inks and colors -- are you planning on doing more with it, or are you happy? I think it looks fine how it is, but also want to see more if more is forthcoming! Great work!

Yes, I know Mr. Gryles a banshee -- I was spoofing Buffy (although, I beleive he may have been called that in the book too? I don't think I'm the one to have made that phrasing up, I got it from somewhere elsehow... you're so accurate! I hardly ever am, I'm envious.

I could do more, but then the svg is available and it's under a permissive license. Someone else could have a go at shading or improving it.

I'm hardly ever accurate with names, I looked it up after I had a funny feeling it was a Banshee. I wouldn't be surprised if Terry himself had put "Vampire Killer" in one of his books as a joke.

I think some charicters in the book may have mistaken him for a vampire anyway.

I don't know if I have too many other people who'd ask to give it a go, thats what was so cool that you wanted to.

I'm horrible with names in real life, I can never remember anybody's. I remember faces perfectly, I always know if I know somebody, i Just don't know who they are.

Yes, "The wonderful thing about a stake to the heart is it works on non-vampires too'

and then Moist tries it: "Missed both my hearts"

That's the great thing about creative commons, you may not get anyone to do such a derivative, but it gives them to the freedom to do so without bothering me with requests. It's also encouraging that sort of 'work together' attitude that says we can create things together, rather than just as lone artists.

I think I'll probably change all of my fanart and sketches to creative comments when I get the chance, but when it comes to my work, I'm still a bit overprotective. I love fan art for my various characters though, I've been incredibly lucky to have several cool people do it for me without being asked, for their own amusement and helluvit, and it warms my heart no end.

I think lone does sort of go with the artist territory, you gots to try and overcome that if it appeals to you.

Oh well for stuff your making professionally, yes. You'll want to keep that more wrapped up. After all if you want to make a living from your works, you have to either work together or proprietise.

I think that artists always produce better works when they work together with other people, most of human endeavour is better with others. It takes two to tango, but a whole room of people for a party.

my thoughts prezactly. I'm both generous and selfish, and fine with it. I am certainly trying my darndest to make a living being an artists, having a real job would get in the way of me making art.

I agree, I've been collaborating on several things lately, and it can be more enjoyable and frustrating and fun, although working on your lonesome you come up with some good stuff too. I'm happy having some of each. The trick is to find the right people to collaborize with, if you get a bunch of jerks it can just be an excercize in frustration.

That is where the skill of community comes in. Something that is punched into us programmers in the FOSS world. Community is the golden rule, if you can't build a base of devs to peer review, test and help fix your software, then your doomed.
