Gimp 2.8 Photoshop Tweaks by doctormo

To help a fellow deviant, I've put together a download that anyone with Gimp 2.8 on Linux can use to make their copy of gimp look more like Adobe Photoshop and make people more comfortable.

I've taken various bits of guides online and various tweaks. All you have to do is download the file, unzip it. Then in the file manager go to your home folder, show hidden files, delete or move your old .gimp-2.8 configuration folder out of the way, and replace with the new one. Then load gimp. Then me know if it works for you or if it fails.

Update: Icon were blurry in the original icon theme. I've patched them all up to be much clearer.
Update2: The drop here text is now gone and the default background when loading is the same dark grey.

Thanks a ton, brother. I (am a web UI-X designer and developer bdw) am a photoshop user for last 9 years but for sometime now, have shifted to open-source and trying out Gimp. I was having a hard time trying to learn it but u made it look familiar...saved months of work and patience...thanks mate...

will this work if youre not running linux? its bad enough that i cant use photoshop anymore, i would hate to have to delete windows as well just to do my commissions T_T

There have been people who use it on windows and mac (some of them commented on it) but I wouldn't know where to put the files as they go in a different place. But it's the same files for both.

If you ever need linux (for some reason) you can install VirtualBox in windows or mac and then install Linux "inside" that. So you have both.

Thank you! I just ran this simple command from command line on Mac OS X after I downloaded the zip and unzipped it in my Downloads directory:

cd ~/
cp -R Downloads/GimpPs-master/* Library/Application\ Support/GIMP/2.8/

Sometimes I draw some pic on my laptop, with Debian. Photoshop does not have in stock, just Gimp only.

Yes. I've had no legal issues from anyone and since it's based on open source work by others and myself. It's unlikely to be an issue.

If there ever was an issue, I'd change this piece in a heartbeat.

Do you mean the dark toolbars etc? You'll have to download a dark theme from onewhere else and install it. This one only comes in one colours.

Really well done. I've been using Fireworks 8 for the longest time, always found it the simplest to work with. Was curious to give GIMP another spin as it's more updated, but I really found the design scheme quite droggy. This does a great job of emulating an Adobe suite-like feel, just without all the DRM and bloat

GIMP upholds a lot of potential.
Looks good applied with a custom black theme on my Windows 2008 setup.

You don't have the drag-here hiding fix. But that's because it's done via colour so you can fix that by changing that colour too.

Yeah. I did notice that as well. Doesn't really matter. Only reason I applied a custom theme to start was, because I felt stock looked pretty poor on Windows. On Linux, it seems to blend in pretty well due to native GTK theming. Really love that.
