Creative Commons-Attribution Share Alike 3.0 LicenSo, someone sent me a note asking me (and warning me) about my works being licensed as Creative Commons and how that was going to bring down fire and brimstone on the artistic community.
I've already responded privately, but I thought I'd share my views with you here. Not least because I am a fervent believer in Copyleft, Creative Commons, and of course Copyright.

Hi.
Thanks for your note warning me about the dangers of Creative Commons. I'm afraid though I'm going to have to disagree with you and your views on this subject. Aside from my graphic artistic creations, I'm also a published author of two science-fiction novels.
For the last 10+ years, each of my creations has been licensed under a Creative Commons like license (GNU Free Document License, CC-BY-NC) or flat out released to the public domain.
The only time a piece of my creation has NOT been released under a Copyleft license has been when it's been a work for hire which all copyrights were transferred upon delivery

This is a piece I've done for one of my recent blog posts about copyright law and a critique of an article on the Linux Journal: [link]

It shows two people who want to fix copyright, one wants to modify it (with the spanner) and the other wants to destroy it (with a hammer). I've also added Creative Commons (CC) as a cog connected to the bigger Copyright cog to emphasise the relationship and that copyright protection is a key component in copyleft licenses such as Creative Commons and GPL.

As always, download the SVG and keep as a resource if you like it.

Thank you. Everyone on the admin team thinks your image is a perfect graphic representation of the themes of our project. I asked the admin to correct the language so it does not refer to your image as a "photo."
